Trotman named SoCon Wrestler of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Appalachian State's Austin Trotman (Winston-Salem, N.C./ Mount Tabor) has been named Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competitions through November 15.

Trotman's Wrestler of the Week selection is his sixth of his career following honors received in 2008 and pair of selections in each of 2009 and ‘10.

Trotman cruised to a 4-0 performance at the Hokie Open on the opening weekend of the season to earn the 184-pound title, improving on his sixth-place showing from last season. The Winston-Salem, N.C., native defeated wrestlers from Old Dominion, North Carolina and Virginia Tech before defeating Newberry's Mitch Brown, 10-3, in the championship match.

The senior then routed Belmont Abbey's Jerami Bartley with a 22-6 (5:41) technical fall on Appalachian's opening day of duals.

After earning a preseason rank of 14, Trotman has climbed to No. 11 nationally in weekly rankings compiled by InterMat Wrestling.

Along with his fellow Mountaineers, Trotman is expected to head to Philadelphia, Pa. for the 2011 Keystone Classic, hosted by University of Pennsylvania on Sunday, Nov. 20.
