    The Citadel closes out SoCon slate with victory

    Buies Creek, N.C. -- The Citadel wrestling team scored victories in the final four matches of the evening as the Bulldogs rallied from a 13-9 deficit to earn a 25-13 Southern Conference win over host Campbell University Friday evening. The Bulldogs even their overall record at 8-8 and secured a third place finish in the SoCon standings with a 4-2 mark on the season.

    The Citadel continued to dominate the upper weights this season, picking up the final 16 points on the evening for the victory. Turtogtokh Luvsandorj scored a takedown on James Cook just eight seconds into overtime to earn at 4-2 decision at 174 and cut the Bulldogs' deficit to one point. Josh Tuck put The Citadel back in the lead for good with a 14-2 major decision over Matthew Cox at 184 and Kelby Smith picked up some revenge for a loss at the Southern Scuffle, defeating John Weakley by a 6-4 decision at 197 pounds to stay a perfect 6-0 in SoCon matches this season. Joining Smith with a perfect mark in league action was No. 15 Odie Delaney, who pinned Joe Nolan at the 4:22 mark for his 12th fall of the season and improved to 22-2 on the year.

    Richard Alarcon opened up the dual with six points for the Bulldogs at 125, pinning Grabiel Soto at the 1:45 mark for his sixth fall of the season. Campbell cut the lead in half with a 9-5 decision victory by Joey Rizzolino over Kyle Casaletto at 133. The Citadel regained its six-point advantage at 141 as Jordan Dix posted a 6-2 decision over Jordan Tolbert.

    Campbell reeled off three straight wins at 149, 157 and 165 to take a 13-9 lead heading into the upper weights. Mark Hartenstine scored a 12-0 major decision over David Ivashchenko at 149 and Nick Rex needed double overtime to dispatch Pierre Frazile at 157. Heading into the second overtime period, Frazile was called for stalling and Rex was awarded the go-ahead point before escaping Frazile's advantage in the third overtime session for the two-point victory. At 165, Mike Harper dropped a 4-2 decision to Ryan Krecker, when Krecker scored a takedown with one second remaining in the third period for the dramatic win.

    The Bulldogs return to action Sunday afternoon as they host Sacred Heart and North Carolina for The Citadel Duals. The Citadel will take on Sacred Heart at noon in McAlister Field House and weather permitting, take on North Carolina outside at First Barracks at 1:30 p.m. In the case of inclement weather, the dual will be held at McAlister Field House. The Bulldogs will also honor its five seniors before the UNC contest.
