Lopouchanski is SoCon Wrestler of the Week again

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- For the second time in as many weeks, UNCG sophomore Ivan Lopouchanski has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competitions from Nov. 24-30.

Lopouchanski continued his hot start to the season this past week as he went 3-0 in a trio of dual matches for the Spartans at the Hoosier Duals on Saturday. That pushed his overall record to 14-1 this year, with three of those wins coming against ranked opponents.

Lopouchanski began his week with perhaps the biggest win of his individual career. The sophomore from Hollywood, Fla., was pitted against Indiana’s Kurt Kinser, who was ranked No. 6 at 149 pounds, and defeated him 6-2, including over two minutes of riding time.

He then defeated Northern Illinois’ Vince Castillo, 8-2. In the final match of the day, Lopouchanski scored a 5-3 decision against Joey Metzler from Old Dominion.

Lopouchanski is now ranked as high as seventh in the nation at 149 pounds by WrestlingReport.com and ninth by Wrestling Insider Magazine. He checks in at 12th by Intermat, as well.

Also nominated for the award was Appalachian State’s Austin Trotman and Chattanooga’s Prescott Garner.
