    Scherr named volunteer assistant coach at Northwestern

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Head coach Tim Cysewski announced the addition of Bill Scherr as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2006-07 season. Scherr, a former World champion and Olympic bronze medalist, was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1998.

    Scherr comes to Northwestern from the financial sector where he is a vice president at Goldman Sachs & Co. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1984 where he was a three-time All-American and 1984 NCAA National Champion. He received his MBA in 1989 from the Indiana University Kelley Graduate School of Business. While at Indiana, he served as assistant wrestling coach from 1985-89. In 1989 he helped coach the Hoosiers to an undefeated 14-0 record and a runner-up finish at the Big Ten Championships.

    Scherr currently lives in Glenview with his wife Teresa and their four children, Alexandra, 20, Ariel, 18, Austin, 12, and William, 8. His twin brother Jim is a graduate of Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Business and is currently the acting CEO of the United States Olympic Committee.
