    Salminen named WWC Wrestler of the Week

    LARAMIE, Wyo. -- North Dakota State senior, 157-pound Vince Salminen (Billings, Mont./Skyview HS) has been named the Western Wrestling Conference's Wrestler of the Week as announced today by the league.

    Salminen went 3-0 at the Northern Quad on Saturday, Nov. 27, winning duals against No. 9 Central Michigan, No. 3 Minnesota and Appalachian State. He led NDSU to a 24-17 upset win over No. 9 Central Michigan and a 2-1 overall record. He pinned Zach Kline of Central Michigan in 6:26 and his pin gave the Bison the lead for good. He won a 14-3 major decision over Appalachian State’s John Blakely and then claimed a 4-0 decision over No. 3 Minnesota’s Pat Smith.

    Salminen is 15-1 overall this season with six pins. He is 3-0 in duals with one pin.

    The league award is a first for Salminen.

    The Western Wrestling Conference, entering its fifth year of competition, is comprised of seven schools including the Air Force Academy, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming.
