The Pioneers started the dual with a 6-0 deficit, but that didn't slow the Pioneers down as they rattled off a decision at 133 pounds from Gerard Daly. Daly picked up the close decision 6-4 over VMI's John Reed. The Pioneers would go on to win the next two matches, as Paul Klee picked up a 19-8 major decision, and Alex Harnsberger picked up a dominant 8-2 decision. VMI's broke the momentum as they picked up a fall at 157, coming in the second period.
Sacred Heart would get right back into the swing of things, as Senior Matt Fisher would pick up a much needed decision at 165 pounds. Elliott Antler would pick up bonus points at 184, with a major decision, but the match would come down to heavyweight, where John Hartnett held the Pioneers dual in his hands. Hartnett would go on to pick up the 6-0 decision and give the Pioneers a 20-18 win.
