    Rutgers handles Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Rutgers wrestling program, under the guidance of first-year head coach Scott Goodale, defeated EIWA conference opponent Princeton 33-12 Saturday afternoon at Dillon Gym in Princeton, N.J. Rutgers picked up its first conference win of the season, improving to 2-4, 1-1 on the season, while Princeton fell to 0-4, 0-1 in the EIWA.

"I am excited with how we performed," said Goodale. "We wrestled pretty well, especially considering it was our third match in two days. We are definitely getting momentum which is something we needed as a program."

Against the Tigers, after Ryan Jablonski (Norristown, Pa.) was pinned by Tony Comunale at 125 pounds, Rutgers reeled off five consecutive wins to take a commanding 23-6 lead. At 133 pounds, senior Dan Hilt (Manalapan, N.J.) earned a 13-4 major decision over Nikhil Pereira. In the 141-pound bout, No. 20 Steve Adamcsik (Chester, N.J.) won by forfeit, as did Jack Barrett (Metuchen, N.J.) at 149 pounds. In the 157 pound contest Jamie Lijo (Stanhope, N.J.) earned a 12-0 major decision victory over Aaron Casp and then Matt Pletcher (Eastampton, N.J.) defeated Alex Enriquez 4-0 at 165 pounds.

Princeton stopped the five-bout winning streak when Travis Erdman earned a 3-2 decision over McPaul Ogbonna (East Hanover, N.J.) at 174 pounds, but then another forfeit gave Keith Dobish (Lodi, N.J.) a victory at 184 pounds. In the 197 pound contest, Lamar Brown (Red Bank, N.J.) put the match out of reach with another major decision (10-0) over Zach Morse. In final bout of the day, in the heavyweight division, DJ Russo (Netcong, N.J.) fell to Sam Ritter 5-3.

"The kids needed to see some success and they got that, so now they have more confidence," said Goodale. "In this sport it's all about confidence, so we will see if we can take this into Thursday's match against East Stroudsburg."

Rutgers returns to the mat on Thursday, Jan. 10, at 7:00 p.m. when they face conference opponent East Stroudsburg at the College Ave. Gym. Admission is free to the public.
