Doing its part to make that battle happen between top-20 Ivy teams, No. 16 Princeton defeated Columbia Saturday 28-9 at Dillon Gym on ESPNU, setting up a battle of Ivy-unbeaten teams Sunday at 1 p.m. in Jadwin against No. 17 Cornell. Tickets are available here.
Princeton will be looking for its first win over Cornell since 1986 and its first Ivy League title since that year, as a win over Cornell would ensure no worse than a share of the Ivy title with the Tigers wrapping up the league slate in Dillon against Penn next Saturday. With its win over Penn Saturday, Cornell extended its Ivy League winning streak to 92 matches, dating back to 2002.
Saturday's match opened at 141, and though Columbia's Matt Kazimir opened with a 6-4 decision over Marshall Keller, Princeton strung together six consecutive wins to put the match away. Four of those came with bonus points, thanks to major decisions from Quincy Monday, Kevin Parker and Patrick Brucki and a technical fall from Matthew Kolodzik, a three-time All-America who returned to competition Saturday after taking the fall semester off from competing for Princeton.
That string of wins put Princeton ahead 23-3 with just three matches to go. The Lions took the matches at heavyweight and 133 around a technical fall from Patrick Glory at 125, moving Glory to 16-0 on the season with 12 of those by fall or tech fall.
