    Oregon State trounces Cal Baptist

    RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- The Oregon State wrestling team ended the regular season on a high note as they won the first ever meeting between OSU and Cal Baptist on Friday night inside of Van Dyne Gym.

    The Beavers (5-8, 2-2 Pac-12) defeated the Lancers (2-5) by a final score of 33-7.

    Kegan Calkins started the evening off for the Beavers wrestling at 141 pounds for the first time this season. Calkins trailed 2-1 after the first period, and after an escape from CBU in the second period he trailed 5-2. The senior used two takedowns plus a two-point near fall securing the comeback win by decision in the final period, 8-6.

    Making his first start of the season at 149 pounds, Conner Noonan matched up against the 2018 Division II champion at 149 pounds in Daxton Gordon. Noonan fell behind early in the first period, and couldn't surmount a comeback as he lost by major decision 19-7.

    Zech Bresser jumped out to a big lead at 157 pounds making his fourth start of the season for OSU. Bresser opened up with a slick duck-under for a takedown, and used another takedown into a four-point near fall for an 8-1 lead after the first period. An escape for Jaron Pagaduan (CBU) in the third cut the lead to six, but a takedown in the final twenty seconds gave Bresser the major decision, 10-2.

    The Beavers against struck first in the match at 165 pounds between Aaron Olmos (OSU) and Jacob Cooper (CBU). Olmos secured a takedown thirty seconds into the match carrying a 2-1 into the second period. The redshirt freshman secured his third dual win of the season with a 5-3 decision.

    The 174 pound match featured Oregon State's Colt Doyle versus Cal Baptist's Bryce Buckley. Doyle and Buckley had a few lengthy scrambles throughout the opening frame with Doyle finally breaking through for a 2-0 lead. He ended the first period with a four-point near fall, failing to secure the pin before time expired. The redshirt junior went on to win by major decision, 12-2.

    Cal Baptist won its second bout of the evening at 184 pounds in sudden victory. Bob Coleman led early thanks to a late period takedown in the first. Garret Strang (CBU) had a takedown in the second taking a 3-2 lead, but a third period escape for Coleman sent the match to sudden victory where CBU won, 5-3.

    Jamarcus Grant ended his recent skid in dual meets with a well wrestled match from start to finish. Grant and Ali'I Loyola (CBU) battled throughout the first period with Loyola getting a takedown, before a Grant reversal knotted the match at 2-2. Another reversal from Grant in the second gave the redshirt sophomore a 4-2 lead heading into the final period of regulation where he secured the fall and six team points for the Beavers.

    The nation's No. 3-ranked heavyweight, Amar Dhesi, made things look easy against Zach Schrader. Dhesi had already accumulated two takedowns before settling in for the fall in 2-minutes, 13-seconds and six more team points for OSU.

    No. 3 Ronnie Bresser had a battle with Antonio Saldate throughout much of the match as the pair ended the first period tied 3-3. With a bottom start in the second, Bresser got away quickly and tacked on a takedown for a 6-3 lead. Injury time for CBU enabled Bresser for another bottom start which he took advantage of for an escape and 7-3 led after two periods. Bresser went on to win by decision, 9-7, for his team-leading 21st victory of the season.

    The final bout of the evening featured Devan Turner (OSU) against Vincent Zavala (CBU). Turner struck first with a takedown a minute into the match, he continued to stay on top for the remainder of the period using a four-point tilt for a 6-0 advantage. Turner would go on to win by major decision, 14-2.

    Oregon State won by a final team score of 33-7.

    Next up for OSU, the Beavers head to Tempe, Ariz. for this year's iteration of the Pac-12 Championships on March 9.
