The win is the first ever MAC victory in Old Dominion history.
ODU picked up victories tonight from Michael Hayes (133), Alexander Richardson (149), Tristan Warner (157), Billy Curling (174), Jack Dechow (184), Kevin Beazley (197) and Jake Henderson (Heavyweight).
“We had a good scrap with Buffalo tonight,” said ODU head coach Steve Martin. “Our guys fought hard and executed their attacks as well as their style. It was a good simulation for the MAC tournament as we had back-to-back competition two days in a row. Michael Hayes, Lenny Richardson, Tristan Warner, Billy Curling and Jack Dechow completed the weekend with back-to-back victories. Kevin Beazley defeated a tough opponent and Jake Henderson wrestled well at Heavyweight. Chris Mecate had an unusual loss as he got caught in a 5-point hold off of his own leg attack. This weekend gives us several technical areas that we need to improve in. We look forward to being at home and competing against MAC opponents NIU and Central Michigan next weekend.”
At 174 pounds, Curling turned the match in ODU’s favor with a 7-4 decision victory over Rrok Ndokaj.
Dechow (184) won by a 3-1 overtime decision, which gave the Monarchs a 15-10 lead. Beazley’s (197) 7-3 decision win gave ODU enough team points to secure the team victory.
The night started at 125 pounds where Buddy Scarborough fell by a 13-5 major decision.
