"This is a very large and talented class," head coach Jack Spates said. "It missed in some rankings because a lot of these young men were signed late into the recruiting season. We are very excited about the futures of these young men."
The class consists of 12 freshmen and one senior from 11 total states, including Cleveland State transfer David Armstrong. The senior will look to get back to the NCAA Championships after qualifying his sophomore season. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native wrestled in 95 total matches at CSU and will contend for a starting spot at 133 pounds.
With three key Sooners graduating from last year's 14-5 squad, Spates said holes need to be filled in the lineup.
"This class has already proven to be one of the hardest working that we have ever brought in," Spates said. "These young men have a passion on and off the mat and a desire to help our program return to national prominence."
Returning to the team are seven starters, including NCAA qualifiers Joey Fio (125 pounds), Zack Bailey (141 pounds) and Will Rowe (149 pounds).
Practice officially begins for the Sooners next Monday, Sept. 22.
