"I thought our kids wrestled hard and competed at a high level. They did a good job fighting the entire match," said head coach Steve Martin. "Most of the bouts came down to the wire and it was a barn burner. You have to give both teams a lot of credit for making it an exciting match. We have another challenge in front of us against Navy on Monday night. At the end of the day, these bouts will prepare us for the NCAA Tournament in March."
Starting at 149 pounds, Kevin Budock opened the dual with a close 3-2 decision. At 157, No. 6 Larry Early defeated No. 20 Zac Carson by a 10-6 decision to extend the ODU lead.
In the first of three overtime bouts, Shane Jones fell to Colt Yinger by a 3-1 score. At 174, Luke Drugac picked up his second dual win with a 6-3 victory over Logan Stanley.
At 184, Dean Drugac dropped a close overtime bout to Jake Walker. ODU answered at 197, where Tim Young trailed through two period and came back in the final frame to earn a 8-7 win. Young now has a 10-10 record.
At heavyweight, Ali Wahab dropped a 6-2 decision to Zack Parker.
Highlighting the night, No. 17 Michael McGee defeated No. 21 Shakur Laney, 3-1 to remain undefeated in duals with a 12-0 record. McGee avenged a November loss to Laney. ODU took a 15-9 lead heading into the 133 pound bout. In the final overtime bout of the night, Mario Guillen defeated Trevon Majette, 3-1. In the final bout of the night, Ohio scored three team points with a 6-5 win over No. 9 Sa'Derian Perry to take the dual into criteria.
