    North Central crushes Elmhurst in final home dual

    In front of an exuberant home crowd, the North Central College wrestling team rolled to a 33-9 win over Elmhurst College on Tuesday evening, winning seven of ten matches in the final home dual of the season on Senior Night.

    The Cardinals (7-5) jumped out to an early 13-0 lead over the visiting Bluejays (4-6) as Brandon Malone led off with a 5-1 decision over Anthony Munoz at 125 pounds. At 133 pounds, Casey McWhirter trailed 5-7 midway through the third period, but quickly turned the tables and stuck Carter Beebe at the 5:19 mark. Layten Binion followed with a 16-6 major decision victory over Matt Quigley at 141.

    After the Bluejays snuck out a 2-1 decision at 149 pounds, Blake Olson responded with a pin over Nick DiNardo at 157 pounds in a time of 2:31 in the opening period. At 165 pounds, Eric Kirkman ran away with a 15-0 technical fall over Sergio Lopez to put North Central ahead 24-3.

    The two teams traded the final four matches as Javier Ishola-Marquez sealed the match for the Cardinals with a 13-6 decision over Bobby Schillinger, while Dylan Mahler closed out the evening with a last second pin over Zack Urbanski at the 6:47 mark at 285 pounds.

    North Central is back on the mat on Saturday, Feb. 14, traveling to the University of Dubuque for the Jim Fox Invite with matches slated to begin at 9 a.m.
