This week's edition of "On the Mat" will feature Larry Kristoff and Bill Weick, two of this year's Distinguished Members.
Kristoff won five World medals for the United States, capturing silver medals in 1966, 1969 and 1979 and bronze medals in 1965 and 1967. He also made Olympic teams in 1964 and 1968, placing seventh and fifth respectively, and won 12 senior-level national titles.
For 30 years (1969-1999), Kristoff served as the head coach for Div. II powerhouse SIU-Edwardsville. He led the Cougars to three consecutive NCAA Div. II national titles (1984-86), and coached the team to a top 10 finish at the NCAA Div. II Nationals 18 times.
Weick, a former two-time NCAA champion for Iowa State Teachers College, is one of the greatest high school coaches ever. With a career high school coaching record of 749-112-2, Weick coached 21 individual state champions at Mount Carmel High School in Illinois from 1986-2003.
Weick was also member of the first Greco-Roman World Team in 1961 and was a seven-time placewinner at the AAU National Championships.
