New Eastern Michigan wrestling facility to be dedicated Saturday

Eastern Michigan University will officially open "The Rock", its new Dean L. Rockwell wrestling facility in a dedication ceremony on Saturday, January 21 at 10:30 a.m. in Warner/Bowen Fieldhouse. The ceremony will honor EMU Hall of Famer Dean Rockwell as well as Eastern's 24 former All-American wrestlers. The ceremony precedes the noon triple-dual meets against Eastern Illinois, Duquesne, and Olivet. The ceremony includes a light brunch and ALL SUPPORTERS OF EMU WRESTLING ARE INVITED.

The new facility is located in a remodeled portion of Warner Gymnasium and includes a new wrestling room that features two full mats with 18 workout circles, as well as an equipped cardiovascular and training area. The facility also includes a new suite of coaches offices adjacent to the practice room. Later this year, new locker room facilities will also be added. The facility will be known as "The Rock" in honor of Dean Rockwell, who passed away late last year. A sculpture honoring Rockwell and EMU Wrestling's All-Americans, many of whom will attend the ceremony, will be unveiled outside the room at 11:00 a.m.
