Initially, let’s focus on the team rankings for a second. Penn State’s dominant win over Iowa has Shayne Van Ness and Tyler Kasak moving up in their respective weight classes. That increases Penn State’s team tournament total to their highest point of the season (144.5). Iowa comes back to Oklahoma State a bit - now 14 points ahead of the Cowboys. In team dual rankings, Oklahoma State jumped over Iowa for the second place slot.
The most individual notable changes of the week occurred at 157 lbs. We have Tyler Kasak as the new number one at the weight. Kasak has a head-to-head win over the previous #1 Jacori Teemer and a 9-3 win over #5 Antrell Taylor. He also has four other wins over wrestlers currently in the top-33. Teemer slides behind Meyer Shapiro. The two have relatively similar resumes for the season. Shapiro’s best win comes over #13 Ed Scott, while Teemer’s comes over #16 Sammy Sasso. Before the Kasak loss, both wrestlers had an injury default on their record. Shapiro has been able to avenge that with a tech fall victory.
Also at 157 lbs, you might notice that 2024 All-American Peyten Kellar has been removed. He hasn’t competed since December 17th. We have reason to believe that he might be out for the remainder of the season; however, as of post-time we haven’t been able to confirm this. The inactivity is enough to take him out for now.
