    Mount Union edges John Carroll in OAC opener

    UNIVERSITY HTS., Ohio -- The No. 11 ranked Mount Union wrestling team won the final four matches to rally for a 19-15 Ohio Athletic Conference win at John Carroll Tuesday in University Heights.

    The Purple Raiders (9-4, 1-0 OAC) found themselves down 15-7 after the 165 pound match but won the next three matches to take a 16-15 lead heading into the final match at 285 pounds. Senior Nick Rajcsak (Stow/Stow) then scored a 3-1 overtime win to clinch the dual for Mount Union.

    John Carroll (2-5, 0-1 OAC) opened the match with a pin at 125 pounds before Mount Union scored a major victory from Jeremy Border (Caldwell/Caldwell) at 133 and a 5-0 win from Alex Funderburg (Amherst/Amherst) at 141 to give the Raiders a 7-6 lead.

    The Blue Streaks got three straight decisions at 149, 157 and 165 that put them back up 15-7 before the Mount Union rally.

    The Raiders return to the mat next Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 7:30 pm hosting Baldwin Wallace in an OAC dual at The MAAC in Alliance.

    149 Daniel Mirman (John Carroll) won by decision over Ben Kazimir (Mount Union) 5-4.
    157 Terner Gott (John Carroll) won by decision over Jon Garrison (Mount Union) 9-6.
    165 Tom McNulty (John Carroll) won by decision over Joe Schindel (Mount Union) 8-1.
    174 Chad Zeigler (Mount Union) won by decision over Jake Vincent (John Carroll) 4-0.
    184 Brent Kirk (Mount Union) won by decision over Todd Gaydosh (John Carroll) 5-3.
    197 Lucas Dies (Mount Union) won by decision over Robert Kratman (John Carroll) 3-1.
    285 Nick Rajcsak (Mount Union) won in sudden victory 1 over Will Porter (John Carroll) 3-1.
