Missouri beats Kent State to extend MAC winning streak to 19

KENT, Ohio -- No. 23 Mizzou Wrestling extended its MAC winning streak to 19 straight duals and capped a perfect weekend of dual action with a 31-12 win over Kent State Sunday afternoon (Jan. 19). Mizzou won eight of the 10 weights, including bonus point wins at 141, 157 and 165. Mizzou improves to 8-5 on the year and 5-0 in MAC competition. Mizzou is the only remaining unbeaten in MAC competition and will host Northern Illinois (3-1 in MAC) and Cleveland State (2-2 in MAC) next Saturday with a chance to wrap up its eighth straight MAC title and ninth straight conference title. Mizzou is now 52-3 all-time in MAC competition.

Dack Punke got Mizzou started with a dominant 7-3 decision over Tomas Gutierrez. The 133-pound bout was close until late when Kent State Tim Rooney caught Mizzou's Allan Hart in a compromised position and pinned him with just 16 seconds remaining in the bout, giving the Flashes a 6-3 lead.

But Grant Leeth helped Mizzou rebound quickly, picking up a pin over Raphael Rodriguez in just 2:28 to give Mizzou the lead back. Brock Mauller then grinded out a 6-4 decision to Kody Komara to improve to 18-1 on the year while extending Mizzou's lead to 12-6.

Jarrett Jacques then made quick work of Conan Becker, earning an 18-1 technical fall win in just 4:21 as Mizzou opened a 17-6 lead midway through the dual. At 165, Connor Flynn made it two straight technical falls for Mizzou, needing just 3:16 to post a 15-0 win over Kade Byland.

Kent State's Andrew McNally then stopped the bleeding for the Flashes, stopping a string of four straight wins – three with bonus points - for Mizzou with a pin of the Tigers' Jeremiah Kent in just 2:56. That cut Mizzou's lead to 22-12 heading into 184 pounds.

At 184, Dylan Wisman won a hard-fought bout over Shane Mast, 6-1, to get Mizzou back in the win column. Wyatt Koelling posted a 3-2 win over Colin McCracken to extend Mizzou's lead to 28-12 moving into heavyweight. Jake Bohlken tallied a takedown in the sudden victory period to earn a 6-4 win and close the dual.
