Roger Kish earned an 11-3 major decision against Matt Maciag to give Minnesota an early 4-0 lead. After a scoreless first, Kish took a 1-0 lead on an escape and a 2-0 lead on a stall. He increased the lead to 4-0 with a second-period takedown. In the third period, Kish scored three more takedowns to earn the bonus point
Despite giving up 16 pounds, sophomore Mitch Kuhlman held on for a 5-4 decision against Dallas Herbst at 197 pounds. In the second period with Herbst on top, Kuhlman rolled and ended up on top of Herbst. He scored two points for the reversal and added two more for the near fall. Trailing 4-1 in the third, Herbst tied the match with a late takedown and a point for stalling, but Kuhlman was awarded the deciding point due to an advantage in riding time.
Following Wisconsin�s forfeit at heavyweight, Minnesota took a 16-0 lead as redshirt freshman Travis Lang defeated Collin Cudd, 8-7, at 125 pounds. Lang took a 4-1 first- period lead, but Cudd cut the deficit to one with a reversal. In the second, Cudd rallied again from a 7-3 deficit. He scored a takedown with 23 seconds left in the period to make it 7-6. In the third, Lang rode Cudd for 45 seconds before the match was tied with a Badger escape. Lang earned the winning point due to a riding time advantage.
The Badgers got on the board as sixth-ranked Tom Clum pinned sophomore Daniel Jackson at 133 pounds. Clum earned the takedown 37 seconds into the match and then scored the fall at the 1:15 mark. A native of Janesville, Wis., Jackson was making his first career start. Reiter is expected to miss Sunday�s dual.
Trailing 16-6 at intermission, the Badgers got back into the match with a pair of upsets in the next three matches. At 141 pounds, senior Ed Gutnik defeated No. 13 Manuel Rivera, 2-0. Following a scoreless first period, Gutnik racked up two minutes of riding time in the second. In the third, period, Gutnik scored the one-point escape and held off Rivera for the win.
In the first of two battles between top-10 opponents, top-ranked Dustin Schlatter gave Minnesota a 19-9 lead with a 4-0 decision against No. 9 Tyler Turner. Following a scoreless first period, Schlatter took the lead with an escape and added a near fall to start the third period. He won his 18th match in a row and improved to 30-1 on the year.
The Badgers got their last win of the night at 157 pounds as sixth-ranked Craig Henning topped No. 4 C.P. Schlatter, 7-4. Schlatter tied the match at four midway through the third period, but Henning escaped to take a 5-4 lead. He added a late takedown to earn the upset. Schlatter is now 27-5 on the year.
Leading 19-12, Minnesota�s lone senior, Matt Nagel, clinched the match with a 12-7 decision against 17th-ranked Jake Donar at 165 pounds. Nagel gave up an early takedown, but rebounded to control the entire match. He led 11-3 in the third period before Donar scored a late takedown.
14th-ranked Gabriel Dretsch closed out the Golden Gopher win with a 14-3 major decision against Michael Felling at 174 pounds. Dretsch took the first lead with a takedown before the pair traded reversals. Dretsch also opened the second period with a reversal to take a 6-2 lead en route to the victory.
The Golden Gophers close out the home portion of their schedule on Sunday afternoon against No. 15 Indiana. Minnesota will honor Matt Nagel, the lone senior on the roster, at intermission. The match at the Sports Pavilion will start at 2 p.m.
