Facing a hostile environment, No. 13 Maryland (13-0, 3-0) won seven matches and will travel to Charlottesville tomorrow in preparation for a dual against 22nd-ranked Virginia.
"I am happy. Our guys went out in a tough environment, stepped up and performed," said head coach Kerry McCoy. "Our guys wrestled well."
The meet opened with the 285-pound matchup. Myers led 6-0 before pinning Abbondanza. Shane Gentry, ranked 19th at 125, followed Myers and won a 7-6 decision over Brian Bokoski to increase Maryland's advantage to 9-0.
After the Tar Heels cut the Maryland lead to six, Ben Dorsay earned valuable bonus points with a 15-2 major decision over Jonathan Burns to give the Terrapins a 13-3 lead.
Second-ranked Josh Asper remained unbeaten at 165 with a 6-2 decision over Kyle Kiss, and fifth-ranked Christian Boley won his team-leading 26th match to clinch the win for Maryland.
The Terps and Cavaliers square off at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Charlottesville, Va.
