    Ohio dominates Chattanooga

    ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio wrestling team (3-3) picked up its third dual win with a 26-13 victory at the Convocation Center on Friday (Dec. 16) over Chattanooga, closing out the schedule until the Bobcats resume at Midlands.

    Sophomore Shakur Laney set the tone in the first match of the day, pinning down Alonzo Allen in the first period.

    “We worked hard all week. didn't really give them a break and I think it paid off tonight,” said head coach Joel Greenlee. “I think we are getting closer to where we want to be. Even in the matches we lost I though we gave them all that they could handle.”

    125 – No. 17 Shakur Laney v. Alonzo Allen
    In the first match of the day, sophomore Shakur Laney (Canal Winchester, Ohio) faced off against Alonzo Allen at 125-pounds. In the first period Laney took down Allen at the 1:20 mark and pinned him for a victory (1:56).

    133 – No. 18 Cameron Kelly v. Chris Debien
    Sophomore Cam Kelly (Bellbrook, Ohio) took on Chris Debien at 133-pounds. After the first period Kelly led 6-2, thanks to two takedowns and an escape. Starting on the bottom in the second, Kelly battled free for an escape and led 9-2 after the second. In the final period, Kelly had multiple takedowns which led to his 18-6 major decision win.

    141 – Noah Forrider v. Roman Boylen
    Redshirt junior Noah Forrider (Marysville, Ohio) faced off against Roman Boylen. After a scoreless first period, Forrider got on the board first off an escape in the second. He went on to lead 4-0 after the second and won the match 6-1 by decision.

    149 – Kade Kowalski v. Dylanger Potter
    At 149-pounds redshirt freshman Kade Kowalski (Nashport, Ohio) took on Dylanger Potter. Kowalski had two takedowns in the first period to take a 4-1 lead. Neither scored in the second period, exchanging riding time. In the final period, Kowalski snuck in an escape with seconds to go in the match, taking a 5-2 win on decision.

    157 – Cullen Cummings v. Trey Watson
    Redshirt junior Cullen Cummings (Woddridge, Ill.) took on Chattanooga's Trey Watson at 157-pounds. Cummings swept Watson 8-0 by major decision, thanks to three takedowns, an escape, and 5:01 in riding time.

    165 – Tanner Miller v. Justin Lampe
    In his first appearance as a Bobcat, freshman Tanner Miller (Lancaster, Ohio) faced Justin Lampe at 165-pounds. In what seemed close at beginning of the match, Miller trailed 4-2 at the end of the first period due to two takedowns from Lampe. Miller was able to add three escapes in the final two periods, but fell by decision 12-5 to Lampe

    174 – Arsen Ashughyan v. Sean Mappes
    Redshirt sophomore Arsen Ashughyan (Vanadzor, Armenia) came out firing with an immediate takedown against Sean Mappes at 174-pounds. He then had another takedown to end the first period, leading 4-1. In a quiet second period, Mappes was able escape to narrow the gap to 4-2. Ashugyan iced the match with a takedown and escape to closeout a 6-5 win by decision.

    184 – Nate Hall v. No. 18 Bryce Carr
    In the 184 match, sophomore Nate Hall (Lewis Center, Ohio) took on Boyer Carr at 184-pounds. Carr had a take down early in the first period, which eventually led to a pin (1:32).

    197 – Bailey Faust v. Clay Dent
    In the 197-pound matchup redshirt freshman Bailey Faust (Lexington, Ohio) took on Clay Dent at 197-pounds. Dent got up early off of a take down to lead 2-0, but Faust staged a comeback. It was highlighted by two escapes, a take down and two calls for stalling. He finished the match with a 7-2 win by decision.

    285 – Zack Parker v. No. 8 Jared Johnson
    The heavyweight match featured redshirt sophomore Zack Parker (Felton, Del.) against Jared Johnson. Johnson swept Parker 8-0 by major decision in the last match of the day.

    Final team score: Ohio 26, UT Chattanooga 13
