Moore Adds Garcia and Schroder to Kent State Staff

New Kent State head coach Josh Moore’s first coaching staff is starting to round out as the school has announced a pair of hires this week. Both are familiar faces for those who have followed Moore’s career.

On Monday, the Golden Flashes announced that Fred Garcia would join Moore on the Kent State staff. Garcia has spent the past two seasons assisting Moore at Cleveland State. During Garcia’s tenure at CSU, he helped heavyweight Daniel Bucknavich to a pair of NCAA berths and a runner-up finish at the MAC Championships. His 197 lber, Ben Smith, was a conference champion in 2024.

Before coming to Cleveland State, Garcia spent five years coaching at Binghamton. While at Binghamton, the Bearcats had 17 wrestlers qualify for the NCAA Tournament and three earned EIWA titles. He was on the bench as Louie DePrez got on the NCAA podium in 2021 and earned NWCA First-Team All-American honors the prior year.

Garcia wrestled collegiately for Moore’s twin brother, Scott, at Lock Haven. He qualified for the NCAA Championships three times after finishing as a three-time EWL runner-up.

Not only did KSU announce Garcia’s hiring this week, but they also added Devin Schroder to the coaching staff on Tuesday.

Schroder reunites with Moore as the two coached together at Cleveland State during the 2022-23 season. Since then, Schroder has been on the Wyoming staff. While in Laramie, Schroder worked closely with 125 lber Jore Volk. Volk was a Big 12 champion and an NCAA fourth-place finisher in 2024. He was injured and missed most of the 2024-25 campaign.

During his two years at Wyoming, Schroder oversaw eight wrestlers earning trips to the NCAA tournament - two of which ended up making the NCAA podium.

In addition to the assistant coaching duties, Schorder will also be the recruiting coordinator for Kent State. His Wyoming squad is coming off a #19 national recruiting ranking from InterMat.
