    Kent State impresses at Cleveland State Round Robin

    CLEVELAND -- Kody Komara earned fall and a technical fall victories as he, Jake Ferri and Colin McCracken went 2-0 amongst the Kent State starters, highlighting the Cleveland State Round Robin on Saturday.

    The Golden Flashes and Vikings squared off in a four-round round robin on Saturday, allowing both starters and reserves get quality matches on Saturday.

    Jake Ferri had a dominate day on the mat earning a major decision over Jake Manley and a quick fall against Cody Moosman. The victories move Ferri to 3-1 on the young season. Tomas Gutierrez split a pair of matches on Saturday, losing in overtime to CSU starter Jake Manley but earning a 11-2 major decision over Cody Moosman.

    At 133, Pat Gould split his matches, losing in extra time to Justin Patrick and controlling the match against Logan Heil en route to a 12-5 victory. Brendon Fenton went 2-0, leading Justin Patrick in the third round before a Patrick injury stopped the match and a 8-2 win over Logan Heil. Gould is now 1-2 on the season while Fenton improved to 4-0.

    Avry Mutschler was the lone Kent State wrestler at 141 and split his two matches on Saturday. He dropped his first match of the day 12-3 to Jospeh Caprella and grinding out a 3-2 win over Jacob Gorman. Mutschler now sits at 1-3 on the season.

    Komara had an impressive showing today at 149 pounds, earning a first period fall over Marcus Robinson and rolling to a 16-1 technical fall victory over Ryan Granger. The two wins moves Komara to 3-1 on the season.

    Nick Colusardo and Ian Senz took the mat at 157 for the Flashes on Saturday. Senz dropped two tough decisions on Saturday while Colusardo split his two matches. Colusardo earned an impressive fall in the second period over Ryan Granger.

    Brady Chrisman, Mason Karpinski, and James Limongi all saw action at 165 on Saturday. Karpinski won his lone match of the day, posting an impressive 13-0 major decision shutout over Caleb Cass. James Limongi split his matches falling to Riley Smucker and defeating Caleb Cass. Brady Chrisman found himself on the wrong end of two one-point decisions.

    At 174, newly minted top-10 wrestler Andrew McNally showed why he's one of the top wrestlers at 174, winning his lone match of the day 9-0 over Anthony Rice. Also at 174, Mike Caniglia dropped a 10-6 decision to Anthony Rice in the second round of wrestling on Saturday.

    Tyler Bates and Joe Andrassy had identical days at 184 pounds. Both lost tough decisions to DeAndre Nassar and earning victories over Gabe Phillips.

    Colin McCracken had an exciting day on the mat at 197 pounds. He defeated Ben Smith 4-3, getting his final two points as time expired to flip the script in his favor with the one-point victory. McCracken later earned a fall against Justin Jaeckin, earning the win in 2:52. Ryan Boyle split his two matches, defeating Jaecklin but losing a decision to Smith.

    At 285, Jacob Cover lost a marathon match to John Kelbly, losing 2-1 in double overtime. Cover rebounded to defeat Daniel Bucknavich by the same 2-1 score, but in regulation. Tanner Clark dropped both of his decisions on Saturday.

    The Golden Flashes will return to Kent State on Wednesday for its home opener. Kent State welcomes in Gannon and Mercyhurst for a pair of dual meets at the Kent State Fieldhouse. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
