The Chippewas (13-2 overall) have won nine consecutive matchups against Michigan State (7-5-1).
CMU led 7-6 after splitting the dual's first four bouts, but the Chippewas won five of the final six matchups to win going away.
CMU's Matt Steintrager opened the dual with a 17-8 major decision over Eric Olanowski at 125 pounds. Steintrager was in control from start to finish, scoring six takedowns, a reverse and two back points in the win. He also held a riding time advantage of 3:48.
The most anticipated match of the dual came at 133 pounds, where No. 8 Scotti Sentes faced defending national champion and fourth-ranked Franklin Gomez. Gomez scored an early takedown to take a 2-0 lead and held a 3-1 advantage entering the third period. Sentes escaped to draw within 3-2 early in the final period, but Gomez scored a takedown off a shot with a minute remaining that proved to be the difference in his 5-3 decision.
Conor Beebe led from start to finish in his 8-2 decision at 141 pounds. He scored a pair of first-period takedowns and allowed just two escapes in the win.
No. 12 David Cheza drew the Spartans within 7-6 with a 7-3 decision over No. 14 Tony D'Alie. D'Alie scored a takedown in the third period to tie the score at 3-3, but Cheza had locked up riding time following a first-period takedown and was cut loose by D'Alie. Cheza added another takedown at the buzzer for the final four-point margin.
Donnie Corby swung the momentum back CMU's way with a 5-3 decision over Anthony Jones at 157 pounds. Tied 1-1 in the third period, Corby took Jones straight to his back from the neutral position for two nearfall points that proved to be the margin of victory.
Tyler Grayson followed with a methodical 10-2 major decision over Kyle Bounds at 165 pounds. Grayson scored four takedowns, the last of which came in the final 15 final seconds and secured the bonus point.
Ben Bennett made it three straight Chippewa victories with a 5-0 decision over Ian Hinton at 174 pounds. Bennett led 1-0 after the first two periods, then started the third period in the top position. He turned Hinton to score three back points and rode him out to earn the riding time point as well.
Michigan State's final victory of the night came at 184 pounds, where Curran Jacobs was a 12-4 winner over Dillon Kern. Jacobs had four takedowns and a 3:33 riding time edge in the win.
Eric Simaz (197) and Jarod Trice (285) closed the match with back-to-back decisions for the Chippewas.
