Lock Haven rolls past Sacred Heart

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Seniors Adam Mackie (Bechtelsville, Pa./Brandywine Heights) and Brad Emerick (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) both picked up victories and the Bald Eagles won nine of 10 bouts, which included three pins and eight total wins by way of bonus points, as the Lock Haven University wrestling team powered its way past Sacred Heart (2-10), 45-3.

Lock Haven (8-8) won the first seven bouts of the night and finished with three pins, two tech falls and two major decisions as bonus points were a huge difference maker for the second straight night.

Tonight marked the final dual of the 2016-17 season for Lock Haven and prior to the match, LHU head coach Scott Moore and the Bald Eagles honored their four graduating seniors: Tyler Wood (West Chester, Pa./West Chester-Rustin), Tanner Sutton (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston), as well as Mackie and Emerick, who both won tonight.

Mackie (174) picked up one of three Lock Haven pins and Emerick closed the match in thrilling fashion, grabbing a 16-0 tech fall (5:50) at 285.

DJ Fehlman (Warren, Pa./Warren) and No. 30 Tristan Sponseller (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) recorded pins at 133 and 197, respectively, and Jonathan Ross (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) looked strong at 157 with a tech fall of his own.

No. 21 Ronnie Perry (Christiana, Pa./Solanco) and Jared Siegrist (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) picked up major decisions at 141 and 165, respectively.

Kyle Shoop (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) won by decision at 149 and Jake Field (South Elgin, Ill./Marmion Academy) won by forfeit at 125.

On a night where Lock Haven honored its seniors, it showed the future is still quite bright for the Bald Eagles as four different freshmen picked up wins.

Last night (Thurs., Feb. 2), LHU rolled past rival Clarion, 27-12 to finish its 2016-17 Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) slate at 4-2, the most EWL dual wins in a single season for Lock Haven in 15 years.

Tonight's win helped LHU get back to .500 and finish the dual season at 8-8 overall.

Lock Haven will return to action on Sunday, February 5 as the Bald Eagles host the Mat-Town Open II Tournament at 9:30 a.m.
