American secured the first points of the day as its eighth-ranked David Terao earned a win-by-fall over Zack Fuentes at 125 pounds. The Eagles then extended their lead to 9-0 as Esteban Gomez-Rivera earned a 9-5 decision over Franco Ferraina at 133. In the 141 match, Kevin Devoy Jr. took American's Tyler Scotton to overtime as the score was knotted at 1-1 as time expired in regulation. Neither wrestler was able to score in the first sudden victory period, but escapes from both wrestlers in the first tie breaker would advance the match all the way to a second tie breaker round. Devoy had a 3-2 advantage going into the second period of TB2, but an escape from Scotton evened the score and a penalty against Devoy would ultimately give the match and a 12-0 lead to American.
Drexel's first points of the day came as Cimato earned a 14-1 major decision over the Eagles' Cole Moseley at 149. American would take the 157 match with a major from the tenth-ranked John Boyle to make the score 16-4 halfway through the dual. However, the Dragons stepped up their game and won out the last five matches to go on to victory.
Drexel's surge started as Austin Rose took an 11-4 decision from American's Mitchell Wightman at 165. Then Nick Elmer edged Jason Grimes by a 5-4 decision in the 174 match and Stephen Loiseau followed with a 15-0 technical fall over American's Joe Salvi. Trailing 16-15 with two matches to go, Nezar Haddad picked up an 8-6 victory to give the Dragons their first lead of the day, 18-16. A 2-0 win from Joey Goodhart in the heavyweight match solidified Drexel's 21-16 victory and allowed the Dragons to get a split of their first full weekend over conference competition.
With the win Drexel improves to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in conference action while the Eagles move to 4-3 overall and 1-2 against EIWA opponents.
The Dragons return to action on Friday as they open their home schedule by hosting EIWA opponent Binghamton at the Daskalakis Athletic Center for Spirit Night. The dual is set to begin at 7 p.m.
