John Carroll piles up big points, rolls past Case Reserve

There were eight bouts contested Tuesday night at the DeCarlo Varsity Center in the annual dual meet between east side of Cleveland wrestling rivals John Carroll and Case Reserve.

Only one ended in a decision.

The rest of the matches resulted in big points, and thankfully for the Blue Streak faithful, John Carroll's big point matches outnumbered those of Case Reserve's to the tune of a 32-13 victory.

After a double forfeit at 125, JCU sophomore John Cobos bumped up to 133 and recorded the quickest end to a match of the evening. He got an early takedown of Victor Pan and would work to a pin in a time of 1:50.

Greg Ryan followed, and used two near falls as well as over three minutes of riding time to post a 15-2 victory at 141 pounds,

Trailing 10-0, Case truned to 2010 NCAA division III champion Isaac Dukes to turn the tide. The junior Spartan 149-pounder, was methodical in a 15-3 win over Blue Streak sophomore David Malkus.

Back-to-back second period pins by Vinny Pizzuli (157) and Connor Suba (165) pushed JCU's lead to 22-4. Todd Gaydosh picked up a forfeit win at 174, and then Bryan Steinmetz dominated his 184-pound match by a 12-2 count to move the home squad ahead, 32-4.

Case would pick up wins at 197 and 285 to complete the evening.

JCU is now 1-1 in dual meets this season, while Case slips to 0-2.
