    Franklin & Marshall tops Sacred Heart to pick up third straight win

    LANCASTER, Pa. -- With seven wins in 10 bouts, including three pins, Franklin & Marshall's wrestling team rolled to its third-straight dual win and first conference victory of the season with a dominant 37-11 decision against Sacred Heart on Saturday evening at the Mayser Center.

    The Diplomats improved to 4-11, 1-8 EIWA while the Pioneers fell to 2-10, 0-5 EIWA.

    Before the start of the match, F&M its four-member senior class of Sam Butler, Edgar Garcia, Dan Martoccio, and Josh Young.

    Six points went F&M's way right from the start when Sacred Heart forfeited the 125-pound matchup. Dan Martoccio (133 pounds) followed by delivering the Diplomats six points the traditional way, turning his opponent's shoulder on the mat with 49 seconds remaining in the second period for his fourth pin of the season.

    Brett Kulp followed with a dominant performance at 141, registering a takedown and eight nearfall point in the first period. The sophomore grappler rolled from there en route to a 16-1 tech. fall that put F&M ahead at 17-0.

    After two-straight Sacred Heart major decisions at 149 and 157 pounds, the Diplomat lead was nearly cut in half at 17-8. Jacob Conners snapped the streak at 165, utilizing a seven-point third period to roll to a 12-2 major decision.

    Josh Young kept the momentum going at 174 pounds with a 9-1 major decision win to extend the F&M lead to 25-8. The senior secured a pair of takedowns and a pair of nearfall points in the victory.

    A 7-3 decision win by the Pioneers at 184 pounds made it a 25-11 contest, but it was all F&M from there as the Diplomats closed out the competition with a pair of falls.

    Philip Robilotto was ahead by a 5-0 score in the second period of his 197-pound bout before turning his opponent at the 3:54 mark. Antonio Pelusi followed by putting the finishing touches on an impressive Diplomat win with a fall just 11 seconds into the 285-pound bout.

    The Diplomats return to the mat on March 3 for day one of the EIWA Championships, hosted by Hofstra. Session one is set for an 11:00 a.m. start.
