Sophomore 125-pounder Ryan Jablonski (Norristown, PA) opened the match for the Scarlet Knights by defeating Nate Myers of Brown by an 8-7 count. Unfortunately, RU dropped four of the next five matches to fall behind 13-8.
Freshman Mike Whalen (Lake Hiawatha, NJ) defeated Brown's Matt Gevlinger by way of a 12-4 major decision and Medini followed him with his 18th victory of the season. However, the Scarlet Knights fell short by losing the final two matches of the night.
With the victory, Adamcsik extended his personal unbeaten streak to 15 matches and improved his overall record to 20-3. The junior is also 10-1 in dual meet action, good for tops on the team.
Rutgers head coach John Sacchi was disappointed his team lost, but explained that his young team is learning new things every day.
"We're starting five freshmen and that is tough," Sacchi said. "They are learning, but they are learning slowly and we've got to pick it up. Adamcsik and Medini are carrying the team and the younger guys must feed off of their lead."
With the loss, the Scarlet Knights fell to 7-4 on the season, including a 2-4 mark in EIWA Conference action. The win improved the Bears of Brown University to 1-1 in EIWA Conference action and 4-3 on the season overall.
The Scarlet Knights will look to get back on the right track when they travel to Lawrenceville, NJ on Wednesday, Jan. 25 for a 7:00 p.m. showdown against the Broncs of Rider University.
