    Brown defeats Franklin & Marshall, Bucknell in EIWA duals

    LANCASTER and LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Brown University wrestling defeated Franklin & Marshall College, 33-12, and topped Bucknell University, 18-13, in a pair of EIWA duals at the Mayser Center and Davis Gymnasium respectively on Saturday.

    In their first road duals of the year, the Bears (2-3, 2-1 EIWA) came back from early deficits to sweep past the host Diplomats (1-8, 0-5 EIWA) and Bison (2-9, 1-3 EIWA). Brown totaled six bonus point victories on the day.

    Senior Justin Staudenmayer (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), juniors Tucker Ziegler (Myersville, Md.) and Ian Butterbrodt (North Andover, Mass.), and freshman Hunter Kosco (Canal Fulton, Ohio) all won twice on the day. Junior Jon Viruet (Springfield, Mass.) posted his third fall of the year against F&M.

    Next, Brown competes at No. 18 Lock Haven tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 21, at 1:00 p.m.

    Dual 1: Brown 33, Franklin & Marshall 12

    LANCASTER, Pa. -- Junior Jon Viruet tallied his third fall of the season, and juniors CJ LaFragola and Ian Butterbrodt both posted technical falls to lead Brown to a 33-12 win over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon at the Mayser Center.

    The Bears won eight of the dual meet's 10 bouts, including five victories via bonus points.

    Viruet (Springfield, Mass.) improved his record to 4-0 in dual meets this season while LaFragola (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) – ranked No. 16 at 184 pounds – and Butterbrodt (North Andover, Mass.) each notched his first technical fall of the year.

    Junior Tucker Ziegler (Myersville, Md.) and freshman Hunter Kosco (Canal Fulton, Ohio) each registered a major decision win. Seniors Charlie Banaszak (Bethesda, Md.) and Justin Staudenmayer (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) and sophomore Jimmy Pawelski (Park Ridge, Ill.) each added a win via decision.

    Kosco recorded the Bears' first points of the dual with a 15-2 major decision at 133 pounds. He opened the bout with an 8-1 lead after the first period behind two takedowns and a 4-point near fall.

    Pawelski put Brown ahead for good in the team score at 7-6 with a 3-1 win at 141 pounds. He posted a takedown in the first period and tacked on a point for riding time.

    At 149 pounds, Banaszak won via an 11-5 margin. He totaled four takedowns and an escape in the win. Following at 157 pounds, Staudenmayer took a 2-0 win with an escape in the second stanza and a point for riding time.

    Viruet put Brown up 19-6 in the team score with a fall in 4:11 at 165 pounds. LaFragola compiled seven takedowns and a 4-point near fall on his way to a 20-5 technical fall win at 184 pounds in his dual debut on the season.

    Ziegler extended Brown's edge to 28-12 with a 13-2 major decision triumph at 197 pounds. He chalked up four takedowns, a reversal, a 2-point near fall, and a point for riding time in the win.

    Butterbrodt capped the effort with a 15-0 technical fall win at 285 pounds. He finished the match in the first period behind a trio of 4-point near falls and a takedown.

    Dual 2: Brown 18*, Bucknell 13

    LEWISBURG, Pa. – Brown took six of the dual meet's final seven matches, including a major decision win for sophomore Zach Krause, to defeat Bucknell, 18-13, in its night cap at Davis Gym on Saturday night.

    Trailing 9-0 to open the dual, Brown won four straight bouts to pull ahead 12-9 and responded again with victories in the final two bouts to come back from a 13-12 deficit. Brown lost one team point for unsportsmanlike conduct for its final total of 18 team points.

    Along with the major decision from Krause (Plainfield, Ill.), senior Justin Staudenmayer (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), juniors Tucker Ziegler (Myersville, Md.) and Ian Butterbrodt (North Andover, Mass.), sophomore Trey Keeley (Washington, Ill.), and freshman Hunter Kosco (Canal Fulton, Ohio) each won via decision.

    After the meet began at 165 pounds, Ziegler scored Brown's first points with an 8-6 win at 197 pounds. Leading 5-4 entering the third period, Ziegler secured the victory with two escapes and a riding time point in the third.

    Butterbrodt brought Brown within 9-6 in the team score with a 2-0 win at 285 pounds on an escape and riding time point. Keeley tied the team score at 9-9 with a 6-2 win at 125 pounds. He tallied two takedowns, an escape, and riding time point.

    Kosco won Brown's fourth straight bout and gave the Bears a 12-9 lead with a 3-2 win at 133 pounds. He scored a takedown in the first period and an escape in the third to gain the win.

    After Bucknell re-gained a 13-12 edge, Krause answered with a 10-2 major decision at 149 pounds to push Brown back ahead, 16-13. He registered all of his points in the third frame with a 4-point near fall, two takedowns, an escape, and a riding time point.

    Staudenmayer sealed the match with a 3-1 victory at 157 pounds. He posted a takedown in the first period and added an escape in the second stanza.
