    Binghamton mauls Brown

    VESTAL, N.Y. -- The Binghamton wrestling team took down Brown, 30-6, Saturday afternoon at the West Gym. Steven Bulzomi, Jacob Nicholson, Dylan Caruana, Jesse Dellavecchia, Jack McKeever, Steve Schneider, Mark Tracy and Connor Calkins all won for BU in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) dual bout. BU moved to 4-0 at home this season.

    Bulzomi strung together a solid effort to start the day. In his 125-pound match with Michael Russo, Bulzomi posted a 10-4 decision, notching takedowns in each period to put BU ahead on the scoreboard.

    In the 133-pound contest, Nicholson trailed Zeke Salvo, 6-2, in the third frame. Nicholson made his move, claiming four back points to even the score. The Waterloo, New York, native followed with a takedown in the final ten seconds, recording an 8-6 decision for a 6-0 advantage.

    Caruana continued the Bearcats' momentum at 141 pounds, registering a 7-1 win over Charlie Banaszak. Caruana was sound throughout, controlling the match to give the home team a 9-0 margin.

    At 149 pounds, Dellavecchia matched up with William McDonald. The bout went back and forth and the third period began with a 5-all tie. Dellavecchia scored to take the lead and held on from there, eventually scoring a 9-6 victory.

    Brown won the next two bouts, but McKeever put Binghamton back on track at 174 pounds. The senior, 27th in the latest NCAA Coaches' Panel Rankings, handled Andrew LaBrie, coming away with a 9-2 decision.

    Schneider put an exclamation point on the dual victory, pinning Austin Pfarr in their 184-pound contest. Schneider, tabbed 20th in the NCAA Rankings, manhandled Pfarr for the second half of the match. The Levittown, New York, native repeatedly took down his foe and eventually tallied a pinfall at the 6:27 mark, making it 21-6.

    Tracy matched up with Augustus Marker in a slow-starting 197-pound contest. Neither grappler scored in the first period, but Tracy took over from there. He logged a pair of takedowns in the second frame, going ahead and later wrapping up an 8-3 decision. The Bears forfeited at heavyweight, ending the dual with a 30-6 difference.

    Binghamton improved to 11-6 overall and 7-3 in the EIWA. It is 4-0 at home this year. Brown fell to 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the conference. The Bearcats will host Bucknell on Friday, February 19, to close out the regular season. The EIWA bout is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the West Gym.
