A.J. Schopp, ranked sixth at 133 lbs., won by fall for the second straight night, pinning CSU's Nick Flannery at 1:53. That leaves the redshirt freshman with a 31-3 record and 15 falls. He moved into a tie for sixth place in season falls.
Ernest James is not far behind, as he recorded his 14th fall of the season, good for a tie for ninth place. The sophomore heavyweight needed 4:04 to pin Garry Yarborogh. James is noe 26-8.
Chris Honeycutt remained undefeated with a 19-2 technical fall at 3:14 over Nick Anthony at 197 lbs. The second-ranked senior is now 31-0 and moved into a tie for tenth place in career wins with Alex Clemsen with a 121-20 record.
Edinboro's other two ranked wrestlers continued streaks, as well. Dave Habat, ranked sixth at 149 lbs., made it ten straight wins and 19 in his last 20 matches with a 5-2 decision over Lawrence Cavello. Mitchell Port (left), ranked 18th at 141 lbs., claimed a 15-2 major decision over Josh Palivoda for his eighth straight win. Habat is now 31-5, while Port is 23-6.
The three true freshmen in the lineup all came away with wins. Vic Avery (20-10) posted a major decision for the second straight night, besting Bobby Blankenship 14-4 at 184 lbs. At 157 lbs., Casey Fuller claimed a 7-4 decision over Brandon Sommers to snap a five-match losing streak and improve to 19-16. Finally, Jesse Swink picked up his first since taking over as the starter at 165 lbs. with a 7-2 decision over Corey Carlo. Swink is now 8-9.
Edinboro returns to action on Friday, February 10 hosting Michigan State.
