    Edinboro makes it 21 straight EWL wins following victory at George Mason

    FAIRFAX, Va. -- The Edinboro wrestling team extended its Eastern Wrestling League consecutive wins streak to 21 on Sunday with a 32-7 win at George Mason at the Recreation and Athletic Complex. The Fighting Scots remained perfect in the EWL at 4-0 while improving to 6-4 overall. The Patriots are now 5-9 and 2-3 in EWL action.

    Edinboro won eight of the ten bouts, with six wins coming via bonus points. The match opened with a pair of major decisions, as ninth-ranked Sean Russell improved to 25-5 with his 13th major decision of the year by an 11-3 score at 125 lbs. over Ibrahim Bunduka (11-2). Korbin Myers, ranked 18th at 133 lbs., followed with a 15-5 major decision over Lio Quezada, boosting his record to 24-8. It's his eighth major decision.

    After George Mason's Tejon Anthony (15-8) won a 5-3 decision in sudden victory over Nate Hagan (12-7) at 141 lbs., tenth-ranked Patricio Lugo and Sahid Kargbo took to the mat at 149 lbs. in the feature match of the day. Kargbo came in with a 21-1 record, and a wild first period saw the score at 7-7. After that, it was all Lugo. The sophomore went ahead 13-8 after two periods and ended up winning by major decision at 19-9. Lugo improved to 23-6 with his tenth major decision.

    Lugo's win began a string of five straight wins for the Fighting Scots, boosting the lead to 28-3. Chase Delande boosted his record to 16-13 with a 4-0 decision over Matthew Raines at 157 lbs. Fritz Hoehn (15-7), filling in for Austin Matthews at 165 lbs., rallied for a 9-7 decision over Ryan Forrest.

    Edinboro won by technical fall at both 174 and 184 lbs. Ty Schoffstall brought his record to 14-7 with the tech. fall at 174 lbs., 19-4 at 5:05, over Daniel Mika. Dakota Geer, ranked 19th at 184 lbs., continued his impressive freshman campaign with a15-0 tech. fall at 3:20 over Austin Harrison. Geer is now 23-6 following his fifth technical fall.

    Matt Meadows picked up the Patriots' second win with a 14-0 major decision over Gordon Truesdale (1-4) at 197 lbs., but 11th-ranked Billy Miller countered with a 14-3 major decision over Matthew Voss (13-10) at heavyweight. Miller improved to 24-8.

    After not wrestling at home since December 19, the Fighting Scots return to McComb Fieldhouse for another EWL match on Friday, January 27, hosting Lock Haven.
