Dual of the Week: #18 Stanford at #6 Oklahoma State

College wrestling returned last weekend, but it really picks up this weekend as some of the nation’s superpowers make their season debut. Returning NCAA team runner-up Oklahoma State comes into the weekend ranked sixth in the nation and will face a Stanford squad that tasted defeat during its opening weekend.

Both teams are relatively young and possess a wealth of talent. Oklahoma State had the #2 overall recruiting class in 2025 and Stanford held the same ranking in 2024. Some of the questions surrounding this dual center around who we’ll see from that Cowboy Class of 2025.

Oklahoma State is a program looking to take back their spot as the kings of college wrestling. Second-year head coach, David Taylor, is aiming to push his squad past his alma mater, Penn State. But first things first, they’ll have to contend with #18 Stanford.

Stanford is coming off a season-opening loss to Utah Valley; however, they were without four of their stars - two of whom participated in the All-Star Classic. Oklahoma State also had two wrestlers in the All-Star dual and they left with perhaps two of the most impressive wins.

This dual takes place on Friday night from Stillwater, Oklahoma. It can be viewed in its entirety on ESPN+ at 8pm eastern.

125 lbs - #11 Nico Provo/Edwin Sierra (Stanford) vs. #2 Troy Spratley (Oklahoma State)

We didn’t see Nico Provo at all during the 2024-25 campaign and he didn’t take the mat last weekend against Utah Valley. True freshman Edwin Sierra got the call and lost a decision to the Wolverines' Bridger Ricks. If Provo is able to go on Friday, he could threaten Spratley and even potentially get the win.
