    Diaz signs with Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG -- The Virginia Tech athletics department, along with head wrestling coach Kevin Dresser, announced Friday the signing of blue chip recruit Chris Diaz to the already strong recruiting class of 2007.

Diaz is from Caesar Rodney High School in Delaware and is ranked the No. 5 135-pounder in the country by W.I.N. Magazine and 16th in the country at that weight class by InterMat. He is expected to be a 141-pounder for the Hokies.

"Obviously Chris adds another blue chipper to our already strong freshman class," Dresser said. "Chris had a great visit last weekend and feels he can reach both his academic and athletic goals at Virginia Tech. He absolutely loved Blacksburg and I think his commitment shows the whole nation that Virginia Tech is, and will continue to be, a very special place."

Earlier this month, Diaz won the 135-pound class at the NHSCA Nationals in Virginia Beach, Va., and is a two-time Delaware state champion. He took third place at both the Ironman and Beast of the East Tournaments this year and was the 2006 NWCA/Brute Scholastic Duals Outstanding Wrestler.
