The dual opened at 125 with No. 7 Nahshon Garrett facing No. 20 Mark Rappo. Despite lots of shots by both wrestlers, they ended the first period scoreless. Rappo escaped from his opening down position in the second for the only point of the period. The match was sent into overtime after Garrett escaped in the third to tie the bout at 1-1. Neither wrestler scored in sudden victory, and Rappo was unable to score from his choice bottom position in the first tiebreaker. Garrett quickly escaped to open the second tiebreaker to win a 2-1 decision.
At 133 pounds, Dixon faced Geoffrey Bostany. Bostany held a 2-1 lead after the first with a takedown, from which Dixon escaped. Dixon escaped from his opening down position in the second and followed with a takedown of his own less than 40 seconds later. Dixon tilted his opponent for three backpoints to take a 7-2 lead into the third. Bosany chose neutral in the third and with no scoring, Dixon won a 7-2 decision.
No. 6 Mike Nevinger took on No. 11 CJ Cobb at 141 pounds. Cobb held a 2-1 lead after the first with a takedown. Nevinger escaped to open the second, but with 16 seconds left in the period Cobb took him down once again. Cobb chose neutral in the third. The Penn wrestler notched another takedown and with 1:18 in riding time won a 7-3 decision.
No. 14 ranked Villalonga faced Andrew Lenzi at 149 pounds. The two were scoreless after the first period. Villalonga escaped to open the second, but with 18 seconds left in the bout Lenzi notched a takedown. Lenzi chose to start the third down. Villalonga worked on turning him the whole period and earned three back points. With 1:26 in riding time, Villalonga won a 5-2 decision.
At 157 pounds, Shanaman squared off against Troy Hernandez. After a scoreless first period, Hernandez escaped from his choice for the only point of the second. Shanaman chose down in the third and escaped to tie the bout at one all. After a scoreless sudden victory, Shanaman escaped from his choice tiebreaker. The Big Red wrestler kept possession in his opponent's choice to win a 2-1 decision.
After a 10 minute halftime, No. 1 ranked Dake took on Casey Kent. Dake held a 2-0 advantage after the third period. Kent chose to start the second at neutral. Dake took him down 15 seconds into the period and turned him to win by fall in 4:32. Dake has pinned all four of his Ivy League opponents this season.
At 174 pounds, freshman Duke Pickett faced Ian Korb. Korb got on the board first with a takedown from which Pickett escaped. Pickett quickly escaped to open the second period, but Korb would take him down once again. Korb chose down in the third period. Pickett was looking to turn his opponent but Korb stayed flat to mat. Pickett cut him looking to score, but Korb evaded him to win a 5-3 decision.
At 184 pounds, fourth ranked Bosak took on Canaan Bethea. Bosak got on the board with a takedown after a minute into the first. Bosak immediately escaped to open the second period. Bethea chose neutral in the third. Neither wrestler scored again. With 1:54 in riding time, Bosak won a 4-0 decision.
Sophomore Billy George faced No. 10 Micah Burak at 197 pounds. After a scoreless first period, Burak escaped in the second for the only point of the period. George chose to start the third down, but he was unable to escape. With 1:49 in riding time, Burak won a 2-0 decision.
At heavyweight, sophomore Aiken-Phillips took on Steve Graziano. After a scoreless first period, Aiken-Phillips rode Graziano for the entire second period. The Big Red wrestler escaped from his choice down position in the third. Graziano looked to be coming out on the scoring end of a scramble, but Aiken-Phillips worked his way to the top with eight seconds left in the bout to win a 4-0 decision with riding time.
Cornell will take on No. 10 Oregon State at 2 p.m. in Newman Arena on Sunday.
