A pair of victories at 125 pounds and 133 pounds gave Dubuque the early 6-0 lead over the Kohawks. After a scoreless first period and trailing 1-0 heading into the third period, junior Luke Kremer (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) put Coe on the board with a takedown in overtime for the 3-1 victory over Ethan Kleitsch at 141 pounds. Fellow junior Josh Donkle (Greeley, Colo./Windsor) followed up with a 8-7 decision over Kody Krenz at 149 pounds to tie the dual at 6-6.
Sophomore Ryan Donovan (Alta Loma, Calif./Alta Loma) lost by technical fall to Brian Travis at 157 pounds as the Spartans took the 11-6 lead. In the 165 pound bout, top-ranked junior Farai Sewera (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) jumped out to an early 9-0 lead in the first period over Manuel Mendoza and held on to post a 15-3 major decision to bring the Kohawks within one point of Dubuque at 11-10. With the win, Sewera extended his win streak to 17 matches and improves his record to 22-1 on the season.
At 174 pounds, Ryan Harrington (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) dropped a 4-3 decision to Elton Turnage for just his third loss of the season as Dubuque extended its lead to 14-10. Sheldon scored a 16-0 technical fall victory over Joseph Shue in the 184 pound match to give the Kohawks the 15-14 lead. Horner put Coe up for good with a 4-3 decision over Nathan Cristion at 197 pounds and improved his record to 21-8 for the season. In the heavyweight bout, junior Creighton Fox (DeWitt, Iowa/DeWitt) dropped a 7-4 decision to Dan Howell but the Kohawks were able to hold on for the 18-17 victory.
Coe will have the next two weeks off as they prepare for the NCAA Central Regionals in Dubuque. The action is set to begin at 9 a.m.
