    Cleveland State tops Bloomsburg

The Cleveland State University wrestling team used strong performances throughout the lineup to claim a 27-15 win over visiting Bloomsburg Sunday afternoon inside Woodling Gymnasium.

CSU won seven of 10 weight classes on the day, including netting two wins by fall.

After coming up short in the opening bout at 125 pounds, the Vikings came roaring back by winning the next five weight classes.

Redshirt senior Armando Torres got things started at 133 pounds. With a 1-0 lead late in the second period, Torres collected four near-fall points to open up a cushion. He went on to claim a comfortable, five-point win after getting the point for riding time.

Senior Sam Matzek came through in a big way at 141 pounds. Wrestling in only his second-ever EWL bout, he claimed a first-period pin to the delight of the home crowd.

Barnett made it back-to-back pins with his team-leading seventh at 149 pounds. He had opened up a 6-0 lead in the first period and had a 9-1 margin just over halfway through the match when he ended the bout by putting his foe on his back.

Despite falling behind early at 157 pounds, redshirt sophomore Nico O'Dor fought his way back to take a 4-2 lead after two periods. He gave up just a single point in the third, effectively holding off his opponent's attacks, to claim a one-point win.

In the match at 165 pounds, redshirt sophomore Ryan Ford and his Huskies opponent were tied, 1-1, in the third after both had notched escapes. Ford went on to get the lone takedown of the bout and added a point of riding time to claim a 4-2 win.

Bloomsburg tried to make a match of it by winning at 174 and 184 to tighten the team score, cutting the Viking lead to 21-15.

True freshman Ben Smith took the mat at 197 pounds with the ability to effectively seal a team victory for the Vikings, and he did just that. With the bout tied, 1-1, and the clock ticking down in the third period, Smith secured a takedown with about 15 seconds remaining. His 3-1 win wrapped up the win for Cleveland State.

Junior Collin Kelly didn't let the Huskies have any more consolation prizes. He used one takedown in each period and added a point of riding time to claim a 7-4 win at heavyweight.

Cleveland State will remain at home, but take a step out of EWL action, this Friday, Feb. 1, as it hosts local foe Kent State.
