Chattanooga scores 31-10 win over The Citadel

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team scored a 31-10 win over The Citadel in Maclellan Gym tonight. The Mocs improved to 6-6 overall and 4-1 in Southern Conference matches, while the Bulldogs dropped to 1-8 and 1-2 in league duals.

The dual started at 141 pounds, and Chattanooga came out firing. Junior Chris Debien opened with a tech fall over Keegan Connolly. Freshman Tanner Smith quickly followed with a tech fall of his own over Selwyn Porter at 149.

The Citadel slowed the Mocs down with a win at 157, but freshman Drew Nicholson put UTC up 13-3 with an 8-6 decision over Dazjon Casto at 165.

Freshman Hunter Fortner's pin at 174 widened the team gap to 19-3, but the Bulldogs battled back with wins at 184 and 197. Senior Connor Tolley had a nice victory at heavyweight, followed by senior Alonzo Allen's tech fall at 125. Junior Jake Huffine closed out the evening with a major decision at 133.

Tonight's win kept the Mocs in the hunt for a share of the SoCon regular season title. UTC hosts league-leading Campbell for Senior Day on Sunday. The Camels are 5-0 overall, 3-0 in SoCon duals and ranked No. 25 in this week's Intermat dual poll.
