Chadron State rolls to victory over Dickinson State

CHADRON -- The Chadron State College wrestling team won its first dual of the season with an impressive 33-4 victory over Dickinson State University Wednesday at the Nelson Physical Activity Center.

"I'm very proud of the way we wrestled and competed," second-year head coach Brett Hunter said. "We had a great atmosphere and the guys really fed off it."

The Eagles, now 1-3, dominated the Blue Hawks while winning nine straight matches. Chadron State also pushed the pace offensively, finishing with 22 takedowns and had seven nearfalls.

Chadron State never trailed in the match and got things going when redshirt freshman Alex Klopp claimed a 6-5 decision over Deshun Haynes at 125 pounds.

Dustin Stodola, the fourth-ranked wrestler at 133 in Division II, cruised to a first period win over Cade Coles before Jay Stine earned a 2-1 decision over Seth Ehlang thanks to riding time.

In addition to Stodola, two other Eagles earned bonus points in their wins. Jacob Anderson won by major decision over Jordan Delp, 15-6, and Devan Fors won by technical fall over Skyler Carroll, 15-0.

CJ Clark, Tyler Smart, Dylan Fors and Jordan DeBus, the sixth-ranked wrestler at 184 pounds, rounded out the winners for Chadron State by all earning decisions.
