    Campbell downs downs SIU Edwardsville

    BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Campbell wrestling's winning streak improved to five after a 27-16 Southern Conference win over SIU-Edwardsville Saturday inside Carter Gym.

    The Camels (9-6, 5-1) took bonus points in five of their seven wins, which included a pair of tech falls, two major decisions, and forfeit victory en route to their fifth SoCon win.

    The two sides swapped leads in the opening two matches, as Freddie Rodriquez put the visitors ahead 4-0 after the opening match. Jonathan Ryan's forfeit victory at 133 gave Campbell a 6-4 lead, one it didn't relinquish.

    Joshua Heil built upon Campbell's lead with his 6-3 decision at the 141-pound contest over Trevor Feagans. Heil tallied a pair of takedowns and solidified his lead with a reversal in the third period. SIUE came to within two, 9-7, after John Fahy took a 5-2 decision over Ben Barton at 149.

    Austin Kraisser earned four points for Campbell with his 18-5 major decision win over Karsten Van Velsor at the 157-pound match. Kraisser opened with a pair of takedowns in the first and added three more in the final two periods to cap off the win.

    Quentin Perez scored 11 points in the third period to pick up a convincing 17-2 win over Clayton Bass, which extended Campbell's lead to double digits, 18-7. SIUE pulled to within seven, 18-11, after Jake Reisidori's major decision win over John Weiss, 13-1, at the 174-pound matchup.

    Ville Heino picked up Campbell's second tech fall win of the day with his 20-4 result against Jake Godinez at the 184-pound matchup. Heino picked up three takedowns and a pair of near falls in the first to take a 10-point lead after the opening period. He finished the match with an escape and two-point takedown, along with riding time, for the win.

    Jake Tindle picked up five points for SIUE with his tech fall over Willie Bivens III pull SIUE within seven, 23-16, with one match left.

    Jere Heino closed out the day with an 18-5 major decision win over Jake McKiernan in the 285-pound matchup. J. Heino tallied six takedowns and a four-point near fall en route to the 13-point victory.

    Campbell hosts VMI at 5 p.m. Feb. 18 for senior day inside Carter Gym.
