Cal Poly downs Cal State Fullerton, 27-14

Fullerton, Calif. -- Pins by Darrell Vasquez (133) and Arturo Basulto (Hvy.) and a major decision by David Roberts (141) gave Cal Poly the 27-14 Pac-10 Conference victory over Cal State Fullerton Wednesday night at Titan Gym.

Basulto took down Fullerton sophomore Dan Ott 53 seconds into the first period to give the Mustangs a 14-8 lead after the fifth bout of the night. Vasques' pin also came in the first period against the Titans' T.J. Dillashaw at 2:41 into the match giving the Mustangs a 20-11 lead. Immediately following Basulto's pin, Roberts scored a major decision beating Fullerton's Teddy Astorga 19-9 in the 141 weight class.

Wins by Fullerton's Risto Marttinen (165), Curtis Schurkamp (125), Sean Reilly (157) and Jesse Taylor (184) were not enough as the Titans fall to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in the Pac-10 Conference. Cal Poly improves to 1-0, 1-0.

Taylor's victory over Cal Poly's Chris Angle was the highlight of the evening for Fullerton fans, scoring numerous near take-downs over Angle en route to a 17-1 technical-fall victory in the second period.

Fullerton returns to action Friday Dec. 2 when they will participate in the Las Vegas Invitaional.
