    Buffalo dominates Sacred Heart

BUFFALO, NY -- The University at Buffalo wrestling team stayed red-hot, beating Sacred Heart, 43-4, at Alumni Arena on Sunday afternoon. It was the Bulls' second win of the weekend and fifth straight dual win overall.

The Bulls got off to a dream start as Kyle Akins got a forfeit win in the first match, followed by three straight first-period pins. Less than six minutes into the match, Buffalo led 24-0.

Bryan Lantry needed only 1:50 to pin Gerald Daly in the 133 match. It was Lantry's third pin of the season and improved his record to 7-1 in duals on the year.

Jason Estevez followed with his second pin of the weekend. A day after pinning Columbia's Jacob Macalolooy, Estevez needed only 1:40 to pin Sacred Heart's Adrian Nelson.

UB's third straight pin came courtesy of Colt Cotten. The senior grappler needed only 1:45 to pin Kyle Brady. It was Cotten's third pin of the season and extended his dual match win streak to six.

At 165, Austin Weigel wrestled in his first dual of the season. The redshirt-junior earned a 9-1 major decision over Paul Curtin. Weigel gained a takedown and a 2-point near fall in the third period to earn the major.

Muhamed McBryde followed with a major decision of his own, beating Dom Celli, 14-5, at 174. McBryde had six takedowns in the match to cruise to the victory.

Brett Perry had to work overtime to earn his victory at 184. The redshirt-sophomore was tied with Elliott Antler, 1-1, after regulation. Antler was assessed a penalty for stalling in the first OT period to give the win to Perry.

Nate Rose continued to roll at 197. The redshirt-freshman earned a 15-5 major decision over Sasha Oliinyk. Rose is now 4-0 in duals on the season, with all four coming via major decision or tech fall.

Finally, Jake Gunning also earned a major decision, defeating John Hartnett, 10-2. Gunning pulled away with a pair of takedowns in the third period. Gunning improved to 8-1 on the season in duals with the win.

"This was a good win for us," head coach John Stutzman said. "At 184, that guy beat us a couple years ago. To come back and win, I think that was important for Brett's confidence and progression. At 197, that guy beat us last year in a dual meet. So to win that one was big. They had some guys out, but they still had some good guys in the lineup and I think we wrestled fairly well."

The win over Sacred Heart capped a solid weekend for the Bulls. Including yesterday's 32-3 win over Columbia, Buffalo won 18 of a possible 20 matches in their two duals.

The Bulls will have a tough test on Thursday when they host 7th-ranked Missouri at Alumni Arena beginning at 7 pm.
