The Bears (4-7, 2-4 EIWA) earned their first Ivy League win of the season with their victory over the Quakers (4-6, 2-5 EIWA) after falling to the Tigers (6-6, 3-2 EIWA) who featured four nationally ranked wrestlers in their lineup. Brown won its first Ivy dual meet since besting Penn, 18-16, on Feb. 8, 2014.
Sophomores Jon Viruet (Springfield, Mass.) and CJ LaFragola (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) each won twice on the day for the Bears. Viruet and LaFragola rank first and second on the team with 23 and 20 wins on the season respectively.
Next, Brown competes at Harvard on Friday, Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m. and hosts Sacred Heart on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1:00 p.m. at the Pizzitola Sports Center in its home finale.
Dual 1: Princeton 32, Brown 6
PRINCETON, N.J. –Viruet won at 165 lbs., and LaFragola picked up a victory at 184 lbs., but Brown University wrestling fell at Princeton University, 32-6, in an EIWA and Ivy League dual meet at Dillon Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Viruet earned a 15-8 decision over Leonard Merkin at 165 lbs. prior to LaFragola gained a 7-3 victory over Kevin Parker at 184 lbs.
Viruet tallied six points in the second period and notched eight points in the third frame en route to his victory. LaFragola posted a takedown in each period as part of his winning effort.
Sophomore Travis Vasquez (Fair Lawn, N.J.) pushed No. 16 Jordan Laster in a 4-1 setback at 149 lbs.

Dual 2: Brown 18, Penn 16
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Brown won the meet's first three matches and claimed three key victories in the second half of the dual to edge host Penn, 18-16, in an EIWA and Ivy dual at Rockwell Gymnasium on Saturday night.
The Bears opened the match with a 9-0 lead in the team score and remained ahead 15-12 with two bouts remaining. After Penn grabbed its first lead at 16-15, sophomore Ian Butterbrodt (North Andover, Mass.) won at heavyweight to send the Bears home with a team victory.
Brown captured three decisions – at 125, 165, and 184 – by one point in the match.
Freshman Trey Keeley (Washington, Ill.) opened the dual with a 2-1 win over Jeremy Schwartz at 125 lbs. before fellow rookie Jimmy Pawelski (Park Ridge, Ill.) won 12-5 at 133 lbs. over Tristin DeVincenzo. Junior Zeke Salvo (Baltimore, Md.) made the team score 9-0 with a 7-3 win over Patrick Munn at 141 lbs.
After Penn pulled within 9-7 in the team tally, Viruet answered with a 3-2 triumph at 165 lbs. over Joe Velliquette. The Quakers tied the team score at 12-12 prior to a 3-2 win for LaFragola at 184 lbs. against Heyob.
The Quakers then gained their 16-15 advantage, but Butterbrodt emerged with a 5-2 win over Tyler Hall to close the dual in favor of the Bears.
