    Bloomsburg knocks off Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Bloomsburg University wrestling team scored bonus points in four bouts on Sunday afternoon and ended a ten-match losing streak with a 28-21 victory at Sacred Heart University. The Huskies improved to 4-12 overall while the Pioneers dropped to 2-6 on the season.

The Huskies had not won since defeating the University of Indianapolis, 20-12, back on November 13 at the Boilermaker Duals, hosted by Purdue University.

The turning point of the afternoon came in the 157- and 165-pound matches. With the Huskies trailing, 12-9, after four bouts, senior Kevin Laubach (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) and freshman Reid Stanley (Fredericksburg, OH/Waynedale) posted back-to-back falls to give Bloomsburg a 21-12 advantage. Laubach pinned Casey Mitchell midway through the first period while Stanley handled Matt Fisher with three seconds left in the first period.

Redshirt freshman Trevor Allard (Mexico, NY/Mexico) followed with a decision at 174 pounds to extend the Huskies' lead to 24-12.

Laubach took over the team lead in pins this season with four while Stanley his second win by fall of his rookie season. Allard's victory, meanwhile, gave him the outright team lead in wins this season with 16.

Sacred Heart put the match back in doubt with a triple-overtime win at 184 pounds and then a forfeit win at 197 pounds to cut the Huskies' advantage to 24-21 entering the heavyweight match. But, freshman Bruce Graeber (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) sealed the victory for the Huskies with a 10-0 major decision over John Hartnett to end the team's losing skid.

It was the first collegiate major decision victory for Graeber, who improved to 10-10 on the season.

Freshman Willy Girard (Williamstown, Pa/Williams Valley) started the day with a forfeit win at 125 pounds to give the Huskies a 6-0 lead. Sacred Heart tied the match at 6-6 when Gerard Daly pinned redshirt freshman Matt Noble (Bridgewater, NJ/DePaul Catholic (NJ)) early in the third period in the 133-pound bout. Redshirt freshman Grant Bond (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) won by decision at 141 pounds before the Pioneers' Alex Harnsberger pinned freshman Nate Newberry (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) at 149 pounds to give Sacred Heart a 12-9 lead.

Bloomsburg will return to the Nelson Field House on Friday, January 27, to host Eastern Wrestling League (EWL)-rival, Rider University. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Huskies will then host Bucknell University on Sunday, January 29 at 2:00 p.m.
