    Bloomsburg handles Clarion

    BLOOMSBURG -- The 22nd-ranked Bloomsburg University wrestling won eight of 10 matches to roll past Clarion University, 28-8, Sunday afternoon in an Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) matchup.

    The Huskies took the early lead in the match with wins by decision from Sean Boylan (Seaville, NJ/St. Marks) and Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY/Greene Central). The Golden Eagles came back with a pair of major decision victories to grab an 8-6 lead after four bouts.

    Bloomsburg regained the lead at 9-8 when Kevin Hartnett (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) won 8-5 at 157 pounds followed by a 4-1 win for 15th-ranked Josh Veltre (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) at 165 pounds. The Huskies took complete control of the match at 174 pounds when Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) won by fall in 2:50 to put the Huskies up 18-8. The pin was the 43rd of his career and the 97th win as he closes in on 100 career victories.

    The Huskies closed out the match with wins from Sam Shirey (Beaver Springs/Midd-West) at 184 pounds; fourth-ranked Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) at 197 and 16th-ranked Justin Grant (Easton/Easton) at 285 pounds. Perry is now 25-1 on the year and has won 23 straight matches.

    Bloomsburg goes to 6-5 with the win, 3-2 in the EWL, while Clarion falls to 8-11, 2-3 in the EWL. The Huskies are idle till Sunday, Feb. 9 when they host George Mason at 2 p.m.
