Oklahoma State tops Edinboro to remain undefeated

EDINBORO, Pa. -- The top-ranked Oklahoma State wrestling team moved to 11-0 on the season Friday night, as it dropped 24th-ranked Edinboro, 24-12, at McComb Fieldhouse.

With three starters sitting out of the lineup Friday, OSU registered seven wins on the evening, bolstering its margin of victory with bonus-point wins from Dean Heil and Kaid Brock. Senior Anthony Collica also tallied his 100th career win, becoming the 41st Cowboy to reach the century mark.

"It wasn't our best, but you always like winning matches on the road," head coach John Smith said. "Wrestling with three guys out of the lineup, it's nice to see two of those three (reserves) win matches. In the end, you just want to see a little bit more. I didn't get what I wanted tonight, but it's get that we got the win and are able to move down the road."

The Cowboys started out in hole, as 12th-ranked Nick Piccininni dropped a tough, 3-2 bout to No. 9 Sean Russell of Edinboro at 125 pounds. Brock and Heil, however, would answer with commanding bonus-point wins to put the Cowboys back on top where they would stay the remainder of the night.

Facing No. 19 Korbin Myers, Brock came out hot at 133, tallying four takedowns and two nearfalls in the opening two periods to lead, 15-3, heading to the third. The Cowboy redshirt freshman would finish off with a 16-4 major decision to move to 19-1 on the season and push his record against ranked foes to 9-1.

Heil scored in bunches as well in his technical fall over Ozzy Lugo that would push his win streak to 29, and move his record on the season to 20-0. Leading, 13-2, after one period, thanks to two takedowns and a couple of nearfalls to match, the junior finished off the match quickly in the second with a reversal and two-point nearfall to take the 17-2 tech that marked his fourth on the year.

Collica picked up his 100th win in a 4-1 decision over 11th-ranked Patricio Lugo at 149. After scoring the first and only takedown of the match with a minute to go in the first period, the Cowboy senior held on, adding a couple of points on an escape to open the second and a point for riding time to seal the win.

Davey Dolan picked up his second consecutive dual victory in an exciting 6-5 decision over Edinboro's Chase Delande. Dolan jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first with a takedown and nearfall to open, but Delande wouldn't go away quietly as he turned Dolan for a four-point nearfall in the second to tie the match at four apiece. Dolan had the last word in the match, however, getting a reversal with under a minute to go in the final period and riding out the clock for the win.

The Fighting Scots struck back at 165 pounds, as 17th-ranked Austin Matthews pinned Chandler Rogers in the second period to cut the Cowboys' lead to 15-9; however, OSU would respond with three-straight victories from Kyle Crutchmer, Nolan Boyd and Derek White to lock up the team's 11th win.

Tied at four at the end of regulation, Crutchmer and Edinboro's Ty Schoffstall were forced to battle it out in an overtime that the OSU senior would take rather quickly for the 6-4 decision. The win pushed Crutchmer to 12-4 this season and 2-0 over Schoffstall.

Senior Nolan Boyd faced a tough test at 184 pounds in Edinboro youngster Dakota Greer, ranked 18th in the nation. Tied at eight in a thrilling, back-and-forth match, Boyd showed his experience, notching a takedown with nine seconds on the clock to earn his fifth-straight victory.

Redshirt sophomore Derek White bounced back from a tough loss last Sunday with a 1-0 victory over Dylan Reynolds that sealed the dual for the Cowboys, despite 12th-ranked Billy Miller of Edinboro taking the heavyweight match, 6-2, over Cowboy reserve Tanner Allen.

The Cowboys will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, as they head to Kent, Ohio, to face Kent State at 2 p.m. ET. Fans can watch live for free here.
