    Oklahoma State routs Edinboro

STILLWATER -- The fifth-ranked Oklahoma State wrestling team picked up its third-straight win Friday night in a 34-6 rout of nonconference foe Edinboro at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Cowboys (11-2, 6-0 Big 12) were able to take eight of 10 bouts in the dual, including five by bonus points. Boo Lewallen and Chandler Rogers added falls at 149 and 165 pounds, respectively, while Dean Heil added a tech fall at 141. The Cowboys finished off the win with a couple of major decisions from Andrew Marsden and Derek White in the final two bouts of the night.

OSU opened the dual with a couple of top-20 wins from redshirt sophomores Nick Piccininni and Kaid Brock.

In his fourth career meeting with No. 11 Sean Russell, Piccininni was able to pick up the 3-1 decision to even the series at two wins apiece. After a scoreless first period, Piccininni added a couple of points in the second on an escape and Russell penalty to head to the final frame up, 2-0. In the third, Russell chose down to start, but Piccininni rode the Fighting Scot for 1:28 of the two-minute period to lock up riding time and come out with the win.

"He's 1-2 against that kid, now 2-2," head coach John Smith said. "That was a good match for Nick. He's a tough kid. He's been tough for Nick to score against. We also need to recognize that Nick's done a pretty good job with his defense. The kid got to his leg a few times with high crotches and Nick fought him off."

Brock edged 16th-ranked Korbin Myers, 5-4, at 133 pounds to stretch the Cowboy lead to six. Scoring early on a takedown to open the match, Brock was held scoreless until the third period where he escaped from his starting position to take a 3-2 lead. Myers answered with a takedown to take a 4-3 lead, but the Cowboy -- with over two minutes of riding time under his belt -- was able to escape again before the buzzer to come away with the decision on advantage time.

The Cowboys struck bonus points for the first time of the night at 141 pounds, as Heil tallied his fourth tech fall of the season in a 17-1 drubbing of Edinboro's Nate Hagan. The Cowboy senior had little trouble scoring on Hagan, racking up four takedowns and turning Hagan for a trio of nearfalls to end the match in 5:11 and kick off his senior weekend with a win.

Lewallen followed Heil's tech with the first fall of his career. Spurred by a takedown in the opening three seconds of the bout, Lewallen turned in one of the more aggressive dual performances of his season thus far over Edinboro's Jensen Lorea. The Yukon, Okla., native followed his opening score with a pair of nearfalls and a couple of reversals to match, including a reversal from the start position in the third period that resulted in the pin.

"It was a good effort," Lewallen said. "I'm still just looking to score points in every position. That's my big focus right now. That's what I want to do."

After Jonce Blaylock suffered a tough, 3-0 loss to Andrew Shomers at 157 pounds, Chandler Rogers got the Cowboys back on track with his third pin in four matches. It wouldn't take Rogers long, either, as the redshirt junior banked his ninth fall of the season in only 35 seconds.

"Usually you see unranked guys and you've got to be careful," Rogers said. "Like last week, I wrestled an unranked guy and got caught in a sticky situation. I was sore the next day. Coach (John Smith) always says to take things seriously and some of these guys are scrappy. Their ranking has nothing to do with it. Some guys are just scrappy and they like to roll around and do different things. It could hurt you, and it's too late in the season to risk allowing this guy to do anything to hurt you. If there's an opportunity to pin, I always want to take it."

At 174 pounds filling in for Jacobe Smith, Cowboy Hestin Lamons battled hard, but came up short in a tough, 13-7 bout with Ty Schoffstall.

OSU would win its final three bouts of the night beginning with Keegan Moore, who picked up a 9-2 decision over Zach Ancewicz at 184 pounds. Moore was able to stretch the score with three takedowns and a reversal, while preventing Ancewicz from scoring any offensive points; however, a late penalty for locked hands on Moore ultimately prevented the freshman from earning the major decision.

Thanks to a third-period barrage, Andrew Marsden was able to pick up a dominant, 20-6 major decision over Edinboro's Dylan Reynolds. Heading to the third with a 5-0 advantage, Marsden turned in on and tallied five takedowns in the final frame to secure the major and move to 4-1 in dual action this season.

"He scored a lot of points," Smith said. "Marsden weighed in at 197 for the second or third time of the season and it's nice to have a body that can go up and be competitive. Your number two guy can't win a lot of times in division one and it's good that we have a guy that can win. I've said it all along that scoring points, I respond to that. Regardless of how you're doing it. I just really enjoy scoring points. Some guys just struggle doing that... I feel real fortunate we have Marsden."

Heavyweight Derek White earned his third top-20 win of the season Friday, and did so in style with a decisive, 12-3 major decision over No. 14 Billy Miller. White scored at will, using five takedowns -- including three in the first period -- to stretch the score and lock up his 10th major of the season.

"Derek White did a good job of separating the score against a pretty good heavyweight," Smith said. "For somebody that we didn't know how he was going to do, he scored five takedowns and picked up a major decision. I was pretty impressive."

The Cowboys will return to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. when they host Bedlam rival Oklahoma at Gallagher-Iba Arena. The dual will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Oklahoma. Tickets are available at okstate.com/tickets.
