The Basics
The No. 3 Oklahoma State wrestling team (0-0 overall) opens the dual match portion of the 2011-12 season when it hosts Rutgers (0-0 overall) at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16 in Gallagher-Iba Arena. Rutgers competed at the Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational to begin their season last weekend, claiming a pair of individual champions and a third-place finisher.
Ticket Information
Tickets for the Rutgers dual are $10. Admission is $4 for groups of 20 or more, but to be eligible for that rate, the tickets need to be reserved ahead of time. All Oklahoma State students are admitted free with valid OSU student identification.

Catching Up With The Cowboys
While Oklahoma State is taking the mat for the first time in dual competition, November has already proven to be an eventful month for the Cowboys. As expected, OSU dominated its the season-opening tournaments, crowning two champions at the Oklahoma City Open and nine of 10 possible champions at the UCM Open. Ladd Rupp, Tyler Dorrell, Jamal Parks, Albert White, Chris Chionuma, Chris McNeil, Chris Perry, Cayle Byers and Alan Gelogaev all won titles at the event. The only weight class without an Oklahoma State champion was 141, where the Cowboys were still well-represented by third-place finisher Luke Silver.
Returning All-Americans
OSU has three of the nation's best wrestlers in 133-pounder Jordan Oliver, 149-pounder Jamal Parks and heavyweight Alan Gelogaev.
Oliver is coming off of a perfect 29-0 season, winning the 2011 NCAA individual championship at 133 pounds. His record included 24 bonus-point wins and his 82.8 bonus-point win percentage was the fifth-highest single-season mark in Oklahoma State history, sandwiched between John Smith's 1988 season and Kenny Monday's 1984 campaign. A staggering 10 of his wins were stopped by either fall or technical fall in the first period. He also had three bonus-point wins in four bouts on his way to the NCAA finals. He also placed fourth at the 2010 NCAA Championships to cap a redshirt freshman season that saw him compile a 32-4 overall record and a 8-4 mark against ranked opponents. Not only did he win the 2010 Big 12 title at 133 pounds, but he was also recognized as the Outstanding Wrestler of the Big 12 Championships.
Parks earned All-America status for the first time last year with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. He advanced to the championship quarterfinals at the event before being bumped into the wrestleback, where he rebounded to claim three victories and secure All-America honors. He finished with a 30-5 overall record that included six wins over ranked opponents and three wins over eventual All-Americans. He also won his second-straight Big 12 title in comfortable fashion, picking up a 7-4 win over Iowa State's Max Mayfield in the semifinals and pitching a 4-0 shutout of Missouri's Kyle Bradley in the finals.
Gelogaev returns to the Cowboys lineup after taking a medical redhirt last year with a chest injury that forced him to miss the entire 2010-11 dual season. Before that injury, he earned All-America honors wrestling at 197 pounds in 2010, his first year to ever wrestle at the collegiate level. He placed seventh at that year's NCAA Championships.
New Kids on the Block
Oklahoma State welcomes a pair of senior transfers this season that have a chance to make a big impact on the program.
Cayle Byers comes to Oklahoma State after wrestling the previous three years at George Mason. The 197-pounder was just a single win away from earning All-America honors two years ago and enters 2011-12 as one of the top athletes in the country, ranked third or higher by Amateur Wrestling News, Intermat.com and WIN Magazine. He is undefeated in open tournaments this year as he claimed the 197-pound championships at both the Oklahoma City Open and UCM Open.
Chris Chionuma comes to OSU after three huge seasons at NAIA Lindenwood. He earned the 2011 NAIA individual title at 174 pounds with a 40-3 record. His junior season included 12 major decisions, eight pins and six tech falls. He also earned All-America honors for his second-place finish in 2010 and his fifth-place finish in 2009. He has already impressed coaches in the wrestling room and hopes to crack the starting lineup at some point in the year. He won the 165-pound title at the UCM Open in his first event as a Cowboy.

Smith Family Ties
While many coaches use the analogy of the team as a family, Oklahoma State's John Smith can take that one step further as three of his nephews currently wrestle for the Cowboys. Chris Perry is the son of Smith's sister, Cathy, and Zach White and Matt White are the sons of Smith's sister, Mary Ann.
