    Oklahoma State drops Iowa State

STILLWATER, Okla. -- The No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State wrestling program won its second dual of the weekend Sunday afternoon, picking up six bonus point wins in a 33-7 rout of Iowa State at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Cowboys (8-0 overall; 3-0 Big 12) earned six bonus point wins for the second match in a row and tallied 28 total takedowns compared to the Cyclones' five. OSU also recorded 10 nearfalls while ISU (2-11; 0-6 Big 12) had none.

“I just felt like we were relentless tonight,” coach John Smith said. “In a lot of areas, it seemed like we got some big moves early, and then we just kept the pressure on and kept looking for more. There's some things I've been preaching, and you don't always get what you preach, but tonight I did.”

A pair of major decisions over ranked opponents highlighted the night for the Cowboys, including Josh Kindig's 11-3 win over No. 13 Luke Goettl at 141 pounds and Alan Gelogaev's 13-1 victory over No. 10 Matt Gibson at heavyweight.

“Everybody has been working hard,” Kindig said. “We had those two weeks off to push ourselves to the max. By lifting and practicing for those two weeks it has really paid off for us.”

Other bonus point winners for the Cowboys included Jordan Oliver at 133, Jamal Parks at 149, Chris McNeil at 184 and Blake Rosholt at 197 pounds.

Oliver's 17-1 technical fall over Ben Cash was his second-straight technical fall and his 12th bonus-point win of the year. He recorded a pair of takedowns and four nearfalls in the opening period and added another takedown and nearfall in the second to the end the bout in 3:09 and move to 12-1.

Parks earned an 11-3 major decision over Luke Swalla to improve his undefeated record to 18-0. It was his second-consecutive and team-best eighth major decision of the year. It also marked his 11th bonus-point win.

Oklahoma State got another major decision from Chris McNeil, who recorded four takedowns in a 13-4 win over Tyler Christensen. The senior now holds an 11-5 record and four major decisions in 2011-12.

Rosholt scored the only pin of the dual and his fifth fall of the year when he defeated Cole Shafer in 4:45. The sophomore recorded a pair of takedowns and nearfalls in the first period and ended it with 15 seconds remaining in the second.

Other Cowboy winners included Albert White, who defeated Michael Moreno, 6-1, at 157 pounds and Chris Perry, who knocked off Mikey England, 8-1, at 174 pounds.

It marked White's team-best 19th victory of the season and Perry's 14th win of his perfect 14-0 season to date.

The Cowboys' team win was notable because it gave them sole possession of the lead for most all-time dual wins. OSU and ISU each entered tied for the lead with 1,013, but the Cowboys' victory puts them alone on top with 1,014.

“I'm pleased to be a part of it,” Smith said. “It's kind of odd we beat Iowa State on that day. It's good to beat Iowa State on that day. It's a tradition; it's a history that it's a privilege to be a part of. I'm a small part of it. It means a little bit more with the passing of Coach (Myron) Roderick. I'm sure he's smiling because it establishes another record for our program.”

Oklahoma State wrestling takes to the mat again on Friday, Jan. 27, against North Carolina State at 7 p.m. at Gallagher-Iba Arena, continuing with the third of a five-dual home stand that concludes with a double-header on Sunday, Jan. 29.
